There are plenty
of places in Barcelona with outside seating and therefore
it’s not hard to find a place to drink as a disabled person.
However, problems do arise when trying to find bars with accessible
toilets. This list provides details of bars with disabled toilets
which close at 3.00 am unless otherwise stated.
Barri Gòtic
Margarita Blue
Carrer Josep Anselm Clave 6, 08002
Barcelona
Tel: 93 317 7176 www.margaritablue.com
This is a lively and vibrant bar which is always packed with young
travellers and locals alike. It’s a favourite spot for Americans,
so there are plenty of people to speak English with. It has a small
seating area for people that want to eat and serves great food. This
is also a good place to try the Brazilian drink, Mojito, which is
a mixture of rum, soda, sugar, crushed ice and fresh mint leaves…..fantastic!
Sidecar
Plaça Reial 7, 08002 Barcelona
Tel: 93 317 7666
info@sidecarfactoryclub.com www.sidecarfactoryclub.com
This bar is situated in the corner of the popular and busy Placa Reial.
It’s mainly a bar and night-club, but until about midnight the
upstairs part is also a restaurant. It has reasonably priced food
from around the world although the wine is quite expensive. The toilets
are located to the right of the bar, through double doors and the
disabled toilet is on the right. There is also a night-club downstairs,
but unfortunately this is not accessible.
Rey de Copas
Plaça Reial, 08002 Barcelona
This late night watering hole is just down from sidecar. It’s
open until about 6.00am every night and it’s clientele are mainly
other holiday makers and travellers from around the world. The disabled
toilets are at the rear of the bar and are also the men’s toilet.
El Raval
Rita Blue
Plaça Sant Augusti 3, (Carrer
Hospital) 08001 Barcelona
Tel: 93 342 4086
Rita Blue, the sister bar of Margarita Blue, is set in a small placa
just off the Rambla, in the shadow of one of Barcelona’s many
churches. It’s mainly a cocktail bar, but it also serves excellent
food. There’s seating outside, however, this is reserved for
clients that want to eat. There is a small step into the bar, but
there is access via a ramp through the service doors just to the left
of the main entrance.
Gràcia
Joali
Plaça del Sol 7
An old traditional Spanish bar which is mainly frequented by local
people. However, the seating area outside mainly consists of holidaymakers
and students from all over Europe. Placa del Sol literally means ‘square
of the sun’ and Joali is one of the best bars in the placa to
take advantage of the afternoon sunshine. The disabled toilets are
in the ladies toilet and although the are not specifically adapted
there is plenty of room to manoeuvre a wheelchair and an access ramp.
Around Museu Picasso and El Born
Black Horse
An Irish bar which serves food and
of course beer. There’s not much to say about the place, but
it’s good to know if you’re missing English food. They
also have Sky TV in English and cover all major sporting events, therefore
it’s frequently full of expatriates cheering on their favourite
football teams.
Borneo
Carrer del Rec 49
Barcelona tel: 93 268 2389
An excellent bar which quickly becomes very busy after 11.30pm. Chilled
music and a relaxing atmosphere seem to be the main theme of this
bar. Play chess on quieter nights or just sit around with a nice cold
drink chatting with friends. Open from 8.00pm every day
Nao Colon
Avinguda Marques de l’Argentera
19, Barcelona
Tel: 93 268 7633
This is a restaurant, live music venue, bar and pre-club all rolled
into one! (For restaurant and live music see restaurants with disabled
toilets section.) After midnight on Thursdays - Saturdays and evenings
before Public Holidays this popular, trendy restaurant turns into
a bar and pre-club called Club-Bamboo. Drinks are quite expensive,
but the music is generally very good and there is a small dance floor.
There is one small step into the bar and the toilets are through the
door next to the DJ booth, closes at 3.00am.
Eixample
La Tramoia
Rambla de Catalunya 15, 08007 Barcelona
Tel: 93 412 3634
Inside this is more of a restaurant than a bar, but there is a seating
area outside where it’s possible to sit in the sun and watch
the world go by over a drink or two. There is a disabled toilet downstairs
in the restaurant which is accessible by taking a large old open shaft
style lift.
The Philharmonic
Carrer Mallorca 204, 08036 Barcelona
Tel: 93 451 1153 www.lafilharmonica.com
Another English bar which serves good quality food from home. It also
has Sky TV and covers sporting events and Eastenders! They have live
music and other activities on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The
Philharmonic is open 9am - 3am weekdays and 11am - 3am weekends.
